Two NYPD Police Officers Executed in Gangland Style Ambush

Two NYPD Police Officers, in a gangland style hit, were shot at point blank range while sitting in a marked police cruiser outside the Tompkins Housing Project in Brooklyn at around 3:00pm Saturday.

The officers, Wenjian Liu, a seven year veteran and Rafael Ramos, an NYPD officer for two years, were "targeted for the uniform," according to NYPD Police Commissioner William Bratton.

Commissioner Bratton, along with New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio, appeared at a press conference providing additional details of the events.

The suspect, Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, a transient with a last known address of Georgia, allegedly walked up to the marked Critical Response Vehicle and without provocation or warning fired multiple rounds through the windows of the cruiser. Neither officer had a chance to fire his weapon.

The suspect then fled on foot into a nearby Myrtle/Willoughby G subway station, where he was found dead of a self inflicted gunshot wound.

References to both Eric Garner and Michael Brown were allegedly posted on Instagram accunt operated by the perpetrator as well as additional social media red flags which, according to Bratton, the suspects social media ecosystem will be sifted through to assess any additional threats or motivations.

Brinsley had traveled to New York City with a single purpose of killing police officers. He stayed at a girlfriend's home in Baltimore, Maryland, and shot her in the stomach this morning before heading to New York. It is unclear why or how he ended up in Brooklyn.

Both officers, members of the 84th precinct, had been working the 79th as part of a crime reduction effort.

The murders, according to Bratton, had no active connection to terrorist groups or were even part of the neighborhood crime element.

Funeral arrangements, with Christmas four days away, are expected to be full honors and escorts for the two officers have not been announced.
